Remembering Stephen Curry’s 30 greatest moments on his 30th birthday
7. 54 at MSG
This is the heavyweight section of the list.
After being snubbed from the 2013 NBA All-Star Game, Curry came out hot in the second half. His 21.0 points and 43.4 percent shooting turned into 24.8 and 51.1 percent through five games post-break, but that was nothing compared to what happened in game No. 6.
Looking at it today, the stat line doesn’t seem all that crazy: 54 points, 11 3-pointers. Curry has had several games like this, and all landed much lower on this list.
But the thing is, he actually hasn’t. 54 is still a career high for Curry, and his 11 triples came on 13 attempts — the best percentage he’s ever shot on 10 or more attempts, and the best percentage of all-time on 12 or more.
More importantly, it was the definitive moment that Curry passed from budding star to international sensation. He had the best game of his career on national TV at Madison Square Garden, proving something to himself as well as the world.
Mark Jackson said that “the baby has already been born,” but this, in parlance Jackson would appreciate, was his christening.
