5. Landry Shamet, Wichita State

Quite a few early mock drafts have the Knicks targeting a point guard, which makes some sense with Frank Ntilikina playing off-ball a lot. However, the Knicks do have Emmanuel Mudiay and Trey Burke also in the fold. If the Knicks are taking a point guard, it is telling about what they have on the roster.

If they do consider a point guard at the top of the second round, Wichita State point guard Landry Shamet is someone that could be available. Shamet has a late first round grade, but only so many players can be selected in the first round. As a result, he could slip a little bit and the Knicks could be rewarded for it.

Shamet brings a lot to the table that you like from a point guard. He has great size, standing 6’4” with long arms. He has shown the ability to lead an offense, as he had a 3-to-1 assist to turnover ratio as a freshman last season and a 2.7-1 ratio in his career.

Shamet can also play off-ball given his size and ability to knock down jump shots. This season, he has knocked down 45.9 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Where Shamet lands will be impacted by how his team does in the tournament. Wichita State did well moving into the American Athletic Conference, earning a No. 4 seed in the East Region. If he can help Wichita State make a run, he could cement his spot as a first round pick.
