Michael Porter Jr., SF, Missouri

I know it’s unlikely, but let’s imagine for a second that James leaves. That’ll plummet this franchise in complete disarray, missing their cornerstone player who has kept them competitive for so long. The potential for that to happen is why they clung to this pick, though.

In this hypothetical scenario, it makes sense for them to target another dynamic talent who can take over as the face of the franchise. It just so happens an elite talent could very well be available in the 4-6 range. That could open the door for the Cavaliers to find their LeBron replacement and get a huge steal at the same time.

Michael Porter Jr. came into the 2017-18 season considered a near lock for the No. 1 overall pick. Then, back surgery forced him to miss almost all of the season, cutting into his draft stock. While it’s unlikely he falls too far on draft night, the potential is there for him to be on the board when the Cavaliers are on the clock.

Anything can happen at this point. If Porter flashes that elite potential during March Madness, he could easily work his way back into the No. 1 conversation. For now, though, it’s safe to speculate that he could potentially fall into Cleveland’s lap.

If James moves on via free agency, it’s a perfect match. Even if the King stays though, why not add a prospect with elite potential who can give this club some long-term stability?
