3. Reunited with Tom Thibodeau

It is no secret that Rose and Tom Thibodeau have a history together. In fact, Thibodeau coached Rose for five seasons when they were both with the Chicago Bulls. This includes Rose’s MVP season that saw him put up averages of 25.0 points and 7.7 assists per contest, powering the Bulls to the best record in the Eastern Conference.

When the Bulls were eliminated by the Miami Heat in five games after reaching their first conference finals in 13 years, the consensus was Rose and the Bulls would be in contention for many years to come. Unfortunately, that was not the case as Rose tore his ACL the next season and hasn’t really been the same player ever since.

The irony here is Thibs considered acquiring Rose before he hooked up with the Cavaliers and now that he has his guy in the fold; it will be interesting to see how Rose performs under Thibodeau’s watch once again.

Even though his time with the Bulls will be forever defined by his no-nonsense and feisty demeanor, Thibodeau always managed to get the most out of his players, even when the team was putting together makeshift rosters on the fly while Rose was trying to come back from multiple injuries.

Unfortunately, it was those injuries that prevented Thibs and the Bulls from reaching their full potential. To date, Rose has played some of, if the not best basketball of his career under Thibodeau. Bearing that in mind, both parties are hoping that Rose is able to recapture some of the form that led to him being one the best players at his position.
