Ish Smith ($5,300)

The Detroit Pistons currently sit at ninth in the Eastern Conference, just 2.5 games back from the Miami Heat. Since the trade for Blake Griffin, the team has stumbled to a 4-6 record, struggling to find wins in a time where they’ll need them to make the playoffs and most likely prevent Stan Van Gundy from getting fired.

There has been a debate for years among Piston fans as to whether the team is better off with Ish Smith at point or Reggie Jackson. Jackson seems like the better overall point guard in a vacuum, but some like the pace and aggression Ish Smith plays with, which fits better into the modern NBA.

That debate won’t be an issue Friday when the Pistons take on the Orlando Magic. Jackson is still sidelined by injury, meaning Smith will not only get the start, but will also probably see an increase in minutes as well.

The only thing ever getting in Smith’s way from going off is his shooting percentage. He’s been inconsistent when shooting in large quantities, but if there were a team who would be forgiving on those numbers, it would be the Orlando Magic, who have a defensive rating of 109.1 (fourth-worst in the NBA). The Magic should be in full tank mode, leaving the Pistons and Ish Smith a chance to get a big win and score some points in the process.
