Overachiever: Anthony Davis, New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans look to be just fine without DeMarcus Cousins for now. Big man Anthony Davis has taken on a bulk of the workload and it has the Pelicans on a seven-game win streak.

It’s been quite the month of February for Davis, who put up 35.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals, 2.2 blocks and 1.5 assists per game. As if that’s not enough, since the All-Star Break, Davis is averaging 37.8 points on 50 percent shooting from the field. Again, don’t be surprised if he wins Western Conference Player of the Month for February.

He’s got New Orleans playing on another level with his performance. He poured in 53 points, grabbed 18 rebounds and swatted five shots in a victory over the Suns last Monday night. It was his first 50-point game of the season. Davis has recorded 40 points or more in seven contests this season.

The New Orleans Pelicans are currently fifth in the West after a 121-116 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. If Davis can continue to push the envelope, he could find himself in the discussion for the MVP Award.
