2018 NBA Draft: More options for Los Angeles Lakers with Cleveland Cavaliers’ pick
The Los Angeles Lakers own the Cleveland Cavaliers’ first round pick during the 2018 NBA Draft. How should they plan on using it when June 21 rolls around?
The 2018 NBA Draft may still be about four months away, but that doesn’t mean the Los Angeles Lakers aren’t already preparing. After securing the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ first round pick ahead of the trade deadline, Magic Johnson now has the power to add more talent to his roster.
As you can probably gather from the headline, I’ve already taken a look at a few of the Lakers’ potential targets with the Cavaliers’ pick. Considering it should fall in the 23-27 range (currently at No. 26), there should be plenty of potential playmakers still on the board. This time around, I wanted to highlight a few more prospects Los Angeles could have in its crosshairs.
There are a couple of things to consider here. The first is figuring out whether or not these players could actually be available when the Lakers are on the clock. I’m not going to say someone like Michael Porter Jr. is an option for Los Angeles, because there’s simply no way one of the class’ top talents is available that late in the draft, even with his injury issues.
We must also take into consideration the Lakers’ potential needs. An example: I’m not going to be looking for a starting point guard because, well, Lonzo Ball.
