Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 takeaways from loss to Spurs
By Ryan Piers
The Cleveland Cavaliers came back down to earth in their loss against the San Antonio Spurs. Here are the three takeaways from a tough defeat.
If the last couple weeks were the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ honeymoon period, then the loss to the San Antonio Spurs Sunday night was their first fight. The unadulterated bliss that’s permeated since a series of seemingly successful swaps appeared to fade as Cleveland endured a 110-94 drumming against the Spurs.
The Cavs looked lethargic, chucking clunker after clunker from deep while appearing lost without LeBron James on the floor. Larry Nance Jr. was overpowered in the paint. George Hill was outmanned by a slew of Spurs guards. Jordan Clarkson and Rodney Hood were solid in spurts, but disappeared in the second half.
Last time the Cavs took center stage on Sunday, they pummeled the Boston Celtics. It was a statement win. It felt good. The loss to the Spurs felt like the exact the opposite.
John Wooden once said, “Failure isn’t fatal, but failure to change might be.” The Cavs need to take a page from the ghost of Wooden and make adjustments. After the loss to the Spurs, here is what the Cavs need to take away.
