2. Kevin Durant, SF, Golden State Warriors

We already went for one superstar small forward, so why not add another to the list? Kevin Durant should become a free agent this offseason, even if his ultimate intent is to re-sign with the Golden State Warriors. Whether or not that’s the case, the Celtics would have to be interested.

I mean, who wouldn’t be interested in one of the greatest scorers of the modern era? Durant is a phenomenal asset when it comes to putting the ball through the basket — there may not be many better to have played in the last few decades. Even with all of the talent Boston possesses, grabbing Durant would be a no-brainer.

It would certainly take the pressure off of players like Irving and Hayward to carry the load. It would also give them another reliable threat to turn to when the shots just aren’t falling. Ask players like Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson — having him on your side can be very beneficial.

Realistically, the Celtics have no way of signing him. A max deal is absolutely out of the question in 2018, but it’s not like they desperately need to add star power to their lineup. In this dream scenario, though, I don’t see any way Ainge would miss the opportunity to have Durant don the green and white.

Of course it’s a pipe dream. Then again, no one really expected Durant to sign with the Warriors two years ago.
