1. Kemba Walker becomes a Cavalier

With the trade deadline nearly here, folks are searching far and wide for ideas to make the Cavaliers better. There have been rumors of them targeting players like Jordan, but not much has been said about potential interest in Kemba Walker.

Well, let’s bring it to light.

I love the idea of the Cavaliers nabbing Walker before Thursday’s deadline. It works to solve three major problems for this Cleveland team. The first is providing more support for LeBron James. The second is ridding themselves of the mistake that is Isaiah Thomas. The third is also ridding themselves of one of their ugly, overpriced contracts.

Now keep in mind that this will likely involve moving the Nets’ 2018 first round pick. It’s not ideal parting with a pick that’ll likely end up in the top 10, but it’s a necessary move if it means acquiring one of the NBA’s elite point guards. It could also be big if it gives James enough reason to re-sign in July.

Let’s just imagine it. The Cavaliers get Walker and Johnny O’Bryant (just for financial purposes), and the Charlotte Hornets get Thomas, Iman Shumpert and the Nets’ 2018 first round pick. Thomas is still an outstanding player, but things aren’t working out in Cleveland. Shumpert is an overpaid defender with limited scoring potential, but makes the deal work. It’s that pick, though, that entices the Hornets to agree to this deal.

The Cavaliers simply have to make something happen. Standing pat will not only cost them a shot at contending this season, but it’ll cost them the greatest player in the game right now. Shouldn’t that be enough motivation to go out and strike a deal for Walker?
