Markieff Morris is peaking at the right time

So far, the Wizards are 2-0 without Wall in the rotation, which is saying something. Considering they probably won’t be trading their first round draft pick for a role player, now is the time for them to develop the talent they’ve got in-house.

They can work on getting Porter involved in the offense more, get Oubre more minutes and experience and allow Morris to find his consistency in the rotation again. Morris missed first six games of the season due to injury. Seven games, if you count the game he was suspended for leaving the bench during their game against the Golden State Warriors back on Oct. 27.

Recently, though, Morris is beginning to find his groove again. He’s averaging 20.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.0 steals per game across the last three games. Morris put up 18 points, six rebounds and four assists in Tuesday night’s victory over the Thunder.

His production has been considerably down this season. He’s currently averaging 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. Still, he’s shooting 47 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range.

Wall’s injury opens up the door to involve Morris in the offense more and the results have been positive so far. He had 23 points, five rebounds and three assists on 9-of-12 shooting in a 129-104 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday night. It was the most points he scored since Dec. 1 against the Detroit Pistons.

Things aren’t all bad this season for the Wizards. They’re currently on a two-game winning streak, so let’s see if Morris’ elevated game continues to produce positive results.
