2018 NBA Draft big board: End of January

16. Robert Williams – Texas A&M
Like Miles Bridges, Robert Williams came back for his sophomore year and his production has more or less stagnated. Part of that is down to Williams playing out of position at the 4. Texas A&M doesn’t have great floor-spacing, so we rarely get to see his true potential at the 5. The bouncy, 6’9″ big man has an outstanding wingspan that allows him to protect the rim really well. Williams also moves very well in space and might have the best upside as a passer of any big in this class.
The problem, and why he’s relatively low here, is his inconsistency. He’s missed some time to suspension and injury, but his motor runs hot and cold. For a player who can terrorize opponents as a rim protector, passer and lob threat, we rarely see that on a consistent basis. That’s partially down to his team, but also on him. NBA teams will need some assurances before buying in. Williams is one of those prospects that likely looks much better in NBA spacing with a real point guard.
