Bench

The time hasn’t arrived yet, but soon it will be time to once again address the bench issues the Washington Wizards are facing. Last season, the bench wasn’t producing enough, couldn’t hold on to leads and underwent a shakeup at last season’s trade deadline.

This season, the issues are even more apparent. The acquisition of Tim Frazier from the New Orleans Pelicans hasn’t exactly gone to plan. Frazier is averaging 3.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.0 rebounds in 15.3 minutes per game this season. On their last road trip, he played in just three games. He did manage to record 14 assists in John Wall’s absence on Saturday night, but Tomas Satoransky got the starting nod.

Jodie Meeks is another player whose struggled off the bench for the Wizards, although he picked things up on their previous road trip. Meeks put up 7.0 points and 2.3 rebounds per game on 33.3 percent shooting from the 3-point arc. On the season, he’s shooting a career-low 31.1 percent from 3-point range.

Their biggest spark off the bench continues to be forward Mike Scott, who put up 8.8 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game on their road trip. Scott has been their most consistent player off the bench next to Kelly Oubre Jr.. Oubre could find himself in the starting lineup soon, though, which could leave the bench unit even worse off.
