New Orleans Pelicans: 3 players the Pelicans should look into acquiring
By Eric Magana
Corey Brewer, F: Los Angeles Lakers
While it may sound a bit crazy to go after the “Drunken Dribbler,” let’s not forget, Corey Brewer is a defensive-minded guy. While Tony Allen continues to recover from his leg injury, Brewer could step in and help on that end. Perhaps, once Allen is healthy, the two could rotate minutes and tackle different defensive assignments.
As noted this season, one of the biggest issues for the New Orleans Pelicans has been fourth quarter collapses. Once Allen is healthy, add in Brewer, and now there are two versatile wing defenders Alvin Gentry can throw at an opposing lineup. While Brewer’s 3-point percentage is horrendous (19.5 percent from deep), he can still drive and slash his way to the basket.
Meanwhile, the outside shooters for the New Orleans Pelicans now get more open shots with AD going to work inside and Brewer slashing his way in the paint. If the Pelicans developed more of an inside-out offense their looks from deep would be much better and efficient.
Once again, whether or not the Pelicans can offer the Los Angeles Lakers anything in return, this would be a nice veteran pickup as a perimeter defender who can slash his way to the paint, draw defenders and kick the ball out. Corey Brewer is another guy who has that coveted postseason experience that could help this team.
