Indiana Pacers: 5 crazy deadline deals the Pacers should try for
4. Phoenix Suns
Whether the Phoenix Suns’ head coach is interim head coach Jay Triano, Jason Kidd (who was reportedly interested in the job) or someone else, at some point this lackluster squad needs to start building something. After all, Devin Booker won’t want to stay on a losing roster without making All Star game forever, right?
The Suns should be looking for a game-changing move to bring in talent around Booker, and making a move for Myles Turner by shipping out the young small forward T.J. Warren might be one avenue to pursue.
To make the deal work, the Suns would make a step forward by taking on experienced players Bojan Bogdanovic and Cory Joseph. Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers would get a marquee scorer to start next to Victor Oladipo, and would have to absorb the experienced and still viable Tyson Chandler.
The deal may not seem perfect at first, but it very neatly gives both teams a boost into the next stage of their respective evolutions. Indiana would move into the conversation for a late playoff run, and give the already motivated Tyson Chandler even more incentive to play hard for final chance at glory.
Having taken such a large contract on and give up the promise of Myles Turner, the Suns would likely have to include this year’s first round draft pick, an asset that can help flesh out the Pacers’ bare bench.
For the Suns, it would give a quick boost to their rebuild, and provide them with a player prototype that has been so evasive for them in recent times: a young talented center. With the notable Phoenix Suns medical staff, Turner should be able to thrive out in the desert.
Also, with T.J. Warren out of the picture, it would be the prime opportunity for this years’ Phoenix lottery pick Josh Jackson to prove his upside to the league, kickstarting his personal development.
