5. Brooklyn Nets

Brookyn Nets swingman DeMarre Carroll has found a refreshing new start under his old coach Kenny Atkinson this year, but business is business and his name has recently surfaced in trade rumors.

While this proposed deal seems simple enough, it provides both the Brooklyn Nets and the Indiana Pacers with what they need:

The Pacers would receive a package including a solid 3-and-D player in DeMarre Carroll and gritty shooting guard Joe Harris from Brooklyn, while sending out the contracts of Bojan Bogdanovic and Cory Joseph.

Brooklyn would get a steady guard to guide Spencer Dinwiddie and DeAngelo Russell, give more opportunity to their talented wing Caris LeVert, and give them instant scoring with Bojan Bogdanovic’s second (and hopefully longer-lasting) stint with Brooklyn. Meanwhile, they shed the contract of Carroll while gaining experience to help guide their young talents.

On the other hand, the Pacers would form a defensive duo of forwards, pairing Carroll with Thaddeus Young.

Small deals are underrated and while no marquee names are involved here, both teams gain a small victory before this year’s deadline.
