9. John Collins, Atlanta Hawks

Last week: 10th (↑1)

Atlanta Hawks rookie John Collins moves up one spot in this week’s NBA Rookie of the Year ladder. Collins’ production this past week wasn’t exactly stellar, but he remains a force to be reckoned with on both ends with his freakish athleticism.

He averaged 9.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game this past week for the Hawks, despite going 1-3. Collins snagged a career-high 16 rebounds (three offensive, 13 defensive) last Wednesday in a losing effort against the Toronto Raptors. He also had 13 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the field.

Collins continues to be an efficient scorer and rebounder off the bench for the Atlanta Hawks. He’s also shooting 3-for-5 from 3-point range in the Hawks’ past three games. He’s done his best to fill the void left by the departure of big men Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap to free agency. Look for his role to increase going forward, or for his star status to potentially grow in this year’s Slam Dunk Contest.
