Kawhi Leonard

Apparently, there is some bad blood brewing behind closed doors in Texas. According to an ESPN report, things are starting to get sour between Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs as the superstar works his way back from a quad injury.

"“Under president and coach Gregg Popovich and general manager RC Buford, the Spurs have a two-decades-long history of strong relationships with star players, but multiple sources describe Leonard and his camp as “distant” and “disconnected” from the organization.”"

Now there are a couple of explanations for this. The first, and the one I’m going with, is that Leonard is simply frustrated with his extended rehab. He’s played in only nine games this season, which hasn’t allowed the Spurs to play up to their full potential. Although they currently sit in fourth place in the West, it hasn’t been as dominant of as a season as it should have been.

Once he gets back on the court, though, it’ll be just like old times.

The problem is this alleged tension has led folks to speculate that Leonard could request a trade. It happened recently with LaMarcus Aldridge, although those issues have since been smoothed out. However, as far as I can tell, there doesn’t seem to be much legitimacy to this notion.

Honestly, all of this speculation is likely a result of wishful thinking. Fans catch word of these rumored squabbles, and start imagining the Claw playing for their favorite team. Sorry folks, but rein in those expectations. Leonard isn’t going anywhere.
