1. Rotation setting

Earlier in the week, Andre Roberson returned to the lineup after missing some games with a knee injury. Roberson assumed his spot in the starting lineup upon his return against the Los Angeles Lakers. With Roberson back in the starting lineup, Billy Donovan had some decisions to make in regards to his lineup.

As one of the best defenders in the NBA, Roberson was going to get his spot back in the rotation. While he struggles offensively, he is a difference-maker on the other end of the court. As a result, someone had to see their role diminished and it looks like that player will be Alex Abrines.

Abrines was given an opportunity at the end of December and January but did little with his chance. An injury earlier in January really derailed his chances, but when Donovan gave him chances he didn’t play well.

With Abrines not stepping up, Donovan has turned to rookie Terrance Ferguson to play at shooting guard on the wing. Josh Huestis has also cemented his role with the team on the wing. That leaves no room for Abrines, who has been relegated to garbage time since Roberson returned.

There is still a chance that Abrines could get back into the lineup. With just over half the season finished, there is still a long way to go. However, for the time being, Abrines looks to be out of the rotation.
