Underperformer: Jonathon Simmons, Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic have hit a bit of slump since beginning the season 8-4. Since then, the Magic have gone 5-27, giving them a record of 13-31 halfway through their schedule. Some of that slump has a bit to do with Jonathon Simmons’ recent production off the bench, or lack thereof.
Simmons was on a tear in the early going of the season but in Orlando’s latest stretch of games, he hasn’t been himself. He’s averaging 9.6 points, 3.7 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game on 37.1 percent shooting from the field and 26.5 percent from 3-point range in the Orlando Magic’s last 12 contests. Subsequently, they are 2-10 across the same span.
The numbers are well below Simmons season averages of 13.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game on 45.5 percent shooting from the floor and 31.5 percent from 3-point land. In fact, Simmons has had just two 20-plus point games since Dec. 22. His underwhelming play has left the Magic reeling in the win-loss column. If Orlando hopes to regain its footing in the East, it’ll need better production from him going forward.
