1. 3-point shooting must improve

Despite some impressive performances from the young Lakers, the losing streak pointed out a problem that went deeper than coaching questions and injuries: 3-point shooting. Unfortunately, L.A. ranks bottom in the entire league in 3-point percentage at 32.9 percent. Their top 3-point shooters are Kyle Kuzma at 36.9 percent and Brandon Ingram at 35.8 percent.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant shooting the 3-pointer at or over 40 percent. The Houston Rockets have James Harden shooting the three at 39 percent and Chris Paul at 38.2 percent.

In other words, the top teams in the Western Conference have capable shooters. Elite shooters at that. Although Houston only ranks 15th in the league in 3-point percentage, their offense revolves around that shot and the roster is assembled with guys who can get hot at anytime.

If the Los Angeles Lakers are to be competitive now and in the future, 3-point shooting has improve and be addressed in the offseason. The league has no time for teams that can’t adjust and get with today’s fast paced and spot-up shooting style.

While the season has been frustrating, just remember this is only part of the process. With enough time and patience, the Los Angeles Lakers will be back and in contention. As of right now, youth and inexperience are all the team has. However, the young pieces are off to a good start. Perhaps with another year, some star talent, and more veteran leadership this team will be ready much sooner than expected.
