4. Bulls send Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott to Oklahoma City Thunder

While the Bulls didn’t officially make the decision to enter into a full-scale rebuild until the offseason, one could say the front office was heading in that direction with the deal they made with the Thunder prior to the trade deadline.

They sent fan favorite Taj Gibson, sharpshooter Doug McDermott and a future second round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder. What made this decision so interesting is the fact that Gibson always thrived in whatever role he was assigned, while McDermott was the team’s top shooter and was averaging 10.2 points per game.

The Bulls acquired Anthony Morrow, Joffrey Lauvergne and Cameron Payne. The first two players are no longer on the roster, while Payne — who suffered a broken foot for the second straight year — will be out of the mix until sometime in January.

"“Cam does some things that can help this team when he gets healthy, by getting into the paint and making plays,” Fred Hoiberg told the Chicago Sun-Times. “We’ll obviously be excited when he gets back, and we’ll see what he can do in the second half of the season.’’"

Although Hoiberg is confident Payne will be able to contribute at some point down the road, Bulls fans couldn’t help but think this was yet another trade the front office totally misfired on.
