Chicago Bulls: 5 observations from 5-game win streak
2. Continued progression of Kris Dunn
After overcoming a finger injury he sustained in the preseason and temporarily playing second fiddle to Jerian Grant, second-year point guard Kris Dunn was inserted into the starting lineup and has been a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
Dunn’s averages of 12.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game already favorably compare to the numbers he posted during his rookie season with the Minnesota Timberwolves (3.8 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per outing) and fortunately for the Bulls, that trend has continued during their unlikely winning streak.
While Dunn hasn’t shot the ball exceptionally well (41.8 percent), he is averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 assists and 4.8 rebounds per outing, including a 17-point, seven-assist performance against the Bucks.
Although his offensive output is a positive, Dunn is also getting it done on the defensive end of the court as well. Not only is he leading the team in steals with two per contest, he is averaging 2.4 steals per outing during this streak.
Furthermore, Dunn has had 11 games in which he recorded at least three steals, thus cementing his status as an above-average defender as well as a player who is capable of producing at both ends of the floor.
