Chicago Bulls: 5 observations from 5-game win streak
5. Robin Lopez
One factor that may have not garnered much attention during the Bulls’ recent winning streak is the play of Robin Lopez. When the Bulls acquired him as part of the trade that sent former MVP Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks following the 2015-16 campaign, Lopez didn’t exactly come with the reputation of being a prolific scorer, considering he has a career average of just 8.9 points per contest.
However, Lopez has played an instrumental role in the Bulls’ scoring attack over the last five games, reaching double figures in four of those outings. Additionally, he is averaging 17.8 points per contest on 54.8 percent shooting from the field during that stretch. Lopez is averaging a career-best 13.5 points per game on the season and has no problem doing all of the dirty work while getting very little credit for his efforts.
Although some NBA teams are moving away from the strategy of dumping the ball into the center, Lopez is proving that it’s still possible for a traditional big man to have success, even one with a limited offensive game.
