Latest on DeAndre Jordan trade rumors

It’s been a few weeks now since the DeAndre Jordan trade rumors really picked up some steam. Well, they haven’t yet died down and I don’t expect them to until one of two things happen: 1) Jordan is dealt or 2) The trade deadline passes.

As it so happens, we appear to be moving closer to option No. 1 becoming a reality.

According to the Racine Journal Times‘ Gery Woelfel, a number of teams have shown significant interest in the elite big men. Among those are the Milwaukee Bucks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards.

For the Bucks, it’s all about finding themselves a dominant rebounder — something they’ve lacked this season. In fact, they’re currently the worst team in the league with a measly 38.1 rebounds per game. Giannis Antetokounmpo has carried his weight in the rebounding department, but other bigs like Thon Maker haven’t held up their end of the bargain.

The Timberwolves haven’t had any trouble with rebounding, but would love to add Jordan’s defensive prowess. Minnesota is currently among the worst teams in blocks per game, which may be a bit surprising considering it boasts the talents of Karl-Anthony Towns in the frontcourt.

I don’t see a specific need for Jordan in Toronto or Washington. Still, who wouldn’t love to have an elite center who can rebound, defend and play high above the rim?

It’s not going to be easy coming to terms with the Los Angeles Clippers, who’ll have lofty expectations when it comes to compensation. However, as the trade deadline nears, don’t be surprised to see talks ramp up. It’s clear there are a number of interested parties who could see him as the final piece to a Finals run.
