4. Dan Majerle

This is probably a long shot, but one still worth covering. The Suns may have already burned this bridge back in 2013, when they inexplicably chose Lindsey Hunter to replace Alvin Gentry as head coach and passed over more qualified assistants in Elston Turner and Dan Majerle. Thunder Dan also has a pretty great new situation going at Grand Canyon University.

However, given his connection with the franchise, maybe we shouldn’t completely rule this one out. GCU has a program that is on the rise, not to mention a culture/student section that already has the attention of ASU and U of A, but the NBA is the NBA. Turning a successful tenure on the fringes of Division I basketball into a job coaching the Phoenix Suns would make sense.

For this to happen though, the Antelopes would have to have an underwhelming season (they’re currently 4-1), interim Jay Triano would have to pass on being hired at the end of the season and the Suns would have to swallow their pride and reach out to Majerle to see if he’d be willing to take them back.

Again, it’s a long shot, but as long as the Suns have an uncertain long-term future at the head coaching position, Dan Majerle’s name will continue to resurface.
