2. Jason Kidd

Another former All-Star guard, Kidd blazed the path that former players such as Stackhouse hope to follow. After retiring in 2013 Kidd became the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, leading them to the postseason. He was then traded to the Milwaukee Bucks, where he now coaches.

For every rumor and swirl of unrest heard in Memphis prior to Fizdale’s departure, Kidd is surrounded by twice as much in Milwaukee. With the team off to a disappointing 9-9 start, the possibility is growing that Kidd’s days coaching the Bucks could be numbered.

Although Kidd has faced a number of criticisms regarding his rotations or schemes, he has also been very successful as a coach, making the playoffs three of his four seasons as a head coach. In addition, it was on his watch that players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo grew into something more than expected.

Memphis has a number of younger players that have fallen short of expectations. With a handful of highly-priced veterans, the Grizzlies need to develop younger talent. Kidd would also represent a known commodity to Memphis fans, an easier sell than a no-name coach stepping in. If Jason Kidd finds himself out of a job in Milwaukee, he may have a job opportunity further south.
