Detroit Pistons: 3 keys to regrouping after recent skid
2. Defend the 3-point shot
The Detroit Pistons need to focus on playing defense on every play for a full 48 minutes. Their lack of focus when it comes to shutting down the 3-point line has proven to be their Achilles heel.
Stan Van Gundy explained to Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press how not defending the 3-point shot can whittle away a lead quickly.
"“It happens all the time and it happens like that, teams shooting a lot of threes and making them,” Van Gundy said. “Lance Stephenson was shooting 16 percent from three, 5 for 30, he hits two of them, one huge one. That’s the kind of thing that happens and that’s why you see a lot of these leads disappear.”"
Detroit squandered a 22-point lead against the Pacers. The Pistons let Indiana get hot from behind the 3-point arc and though they regained the lead late in the game, the Pacers withstood the rally and held on to win the game.
