The Washington Wizards are 10-8 only two months into the 2017-18 season. Here are three takeaways from their start as they look to make a playoff run.

The Washington Wizards still have a few kinks to work out to become a top team in the Eastern Conference. Their recent loss to the Charlotte Hornets exposed some cracks in the armor, just when it looked like the Wizards were steadily improving on defense.

The defense is improving but it’s been the offense, or lack thereof, that’s had the Wizards on the losing end of games they should have won.

Washington looked to have Wednesday night’s game well in hand with a few minutes remaining before the Hornets made a run to tie the game in regulation. The Wizards had a chance at the end, but were unable to score. In overtime, things fell apart for Washington and it lost in overtime, 129-124. It snapped the team’s streak of seven straight games allowing 100 points or less.

The Washington Wizards have lost three of their last four games since winning four games in a row. They still have a 10-8 record as they begin to get into the bulk of the 2017-18 schedule. So far, they’re 6-4 against Eastern Conference opponents and 4-4 against Western Conference foes.

They’re in good shape but without making a few minor adjustments, they could come up short of their goal of making the Eastern Conference Finals this year. Here are three takeaways from the first month of the season.
