1. Assists

At the moment, Maker is averaging just 0.8 assists per game this season. This is twice the 0.4 per game he averaged last season. Part of the reason for this is Maker is either finishing a play with a dunk or is stroking his sweet outside shot.

More from Milwaukee Bucks

In order for Maker to be a truly effective pivot, he needs to work on creating more for his outside shooters. Maker has the ability to slip behind defenses for an easy dunk. However, in the NBA, coaches are pretty wise in how they set up players to score.

It won’t be long before teams will cover the back cut that has been so effective. At this point, probably two defenders will move to cut off the space. This is where Maker will need to execute a good pass to the open player, making the Bucks even more dangerous.

It will be this passing which will make defenders hesitate to come and help on the athletic center. Without the help, Maker should be able to beat most big men one-on-one. His speed and athletic ability will see to that.

Also, Thon Maker needs to learn how to play the post from Greg Monroe. If he can do this and add the passing game in, he will be very hard to stop.
