Milwaukee Bucks: 3 aspects Thon Maker needs to improve his game
2. Offensive rebounding
For his height and athleticism, I am a little surprised Maker is averaging 0.8 offensive rebounds per game. Most of this has to do with positioning and response time.
Maker is a quality 3-point shooter. For a seven-footer, 37 percent shooting from range is impressive. This means he is also often not in the correct position to get offensive rebounds. However, when plays have been run for other players to get open looks from beyond the arc, Maker has to be better.

Maker will always be heavily involved in the offense. He will be setting screens and generally helping free his shooters from their defender to get them an open look. Once the shot goes up, it appears for a second Maker believes the offensive possession is over.
Unfortunately the job is not done. The offensive possession is not over until the ball is through the basket or in the hands of the opposition. It is this split-second hesitation that costs Maker the opportunity to find good position under the basket for the offensive rebound.
With Maker’s length, he should be able to collect more offensive rebounds than he is. When he does, he will give the Bucks a good many more second chance points opportunities.
