Kyle Lowry‘s playing style clashes with the new offense: Trick
It feels silly to worry about a player who recorded a triple-double in his fifth game of the season, but Kyle Lowry’s shooting numbers to start 2017-18 are reminiscent of pretty much every postseason he’s ever had.
So far this season, Lowry is averaging just 13.5 points per game on 36.8 percent shooting from the floor and 33.3 percent shooting from 3-point range. With the Toronto Raptors‘ offense devaluing one-on-one isos and mid-range looks in favor of a more modern, 3-point heavy offense, it’s fair to wonder if Lowry’s skill-set clashes with the team’s new priorities.
However, it’s still incredibly early in the year and a new offense takes time to adjust to. Though Lowry’s age (31) could contribute to regression at some point, and his scoring is down by nearly 10 points per game from last year, it’s too early to worry about his fit in the revamped offense. Keep an eye on it, but don’t worry about it just yet.
