Detroit Pistons shock the Clippers and Warriors on the road
Playing team ball makes the Pistons a real threat
The Pistons’ last two wins came against the top two teams in the Western Conference on back-to-back nights. While some are quick to label the wins a fluke or assume the Clippers and Warriors just overlooked the Pistons, that’s not the case. Andre Drummond talked about the “no star” mentality after the win over the Warriors, per the Detroit Free Press:
"“With the Warriors, they got Steph [Curry], Klay [Thompson], Kevin Durant, you expect to get 20-plus out of them every night,” said Pistons center Andre Drummond, who finished with five steals and 18 rebounds and helped the Pistons overcome a 14-point deficit in the second half. “With us, it’s such a good core of guys that are able to put the ball in the basket. You never know who’s going to get off that night.”"
The Pistons executed two very different game plans in their stunning defeats of the two Western Conference leaders. They have a complete team and they are jelling. If the trend continues that could spell trouble for the Eastern Conference. The Pistons might end the season with a much higher playoff seed than predicted.
