Chicago Bulls: 5 takeaways from first 2 weeks of 2017-18 season
3. Justin Holiday is Bulls’ top scorer early on
The Bulls initially acquired Justin Holiday during the middle of the 2015-16 season. In 27 games, he averaged a respectable 6.5 points per contest. Subsequently, the Bulls sent him, along with Derrick Rose, to the New York Knicks and in spite of playing for a ball club that had its fair share of turmoil last season, Holiday averaged 7.7 points while playing in all 82 games.
But even though the Bulls once deemed Holiday as expendable, they signed him to a two-year deal during the offseason and the move has paid off in a big way, to say the least. Not only is Holiday the Bulls’ leading scorer (15.8 points per game), he also leads the team in minutes (35.2 minutes per game).
When the Bulls signed Holiday, the goal was to have someone who could hold down the 2-guard spot until Zach LaVine returns to the lineup. Based on his production, though, Holiday figures to have a prominent role in the rotation beyond that — assuming he can pick up his efficiency, which as of right now, stands at a dismal shooting clip of 33.3 percent from the field.
