Orlando Magic: Top 5 performers from standout start
By Luke Duffy
2. Aaron Gordon
Finally. After tantalizing us with his physicals gifts for the first three seasons of his career, Aaron Gordon looks to have put it all together to begin his fourth — just as well for the player, as the Magic elected not to give him an early extension and so he will be a restricted free agent next summer.
So far that decision looks to have lit a fire under the 22-year-old, who has begun this year on a tear. The Blake Griffin comparisons when he was drafted back in 2014 were lazy, but they seem more accurate now.
Gordon already has a handful of highlight dunks already this season, but the real reason for huge improvement has been his ability to add a more consistent jumper, which has opened everything else up for him.
A career 29.7 percent 3-point shooter, Gordon is shooting 85.7 percent (no that is not a typo) this season from beyond the arc, and he has been torching teams. The jumper looks more fluid than before and most of the time when it goes down it is connecting with nothing but net.
Gordon is also averaging 27.5 points per game (fifth in the league), 11.5 rebounds (sixth) and boasts a PER of 30.8 (ninth).
His caree- high 41 points in the team’s recent win over the Brooklyn Nets let the rest of the league know that he finally looks to be the real deal.
