Orlando Magic: Top 5 performers from standout start
By Luke Duffy
3. Evan Fournier
In some ways, Evan Fournier may be a victim of his own success on this team now. His exploits so far this season are similar to the do-it-all performances he had last year. The only difference is that now that Fournier has more help in the form of Jonathon Simmons and improved play internally, so what he is doing doesn’t stand out quite as much.
The 21.5 points he’s averaging per game right now are easily a career high right now, and are tied with none other than Russell Westbrook for 24th in the entire league. On top of that, Fournier is shooting 47.6 percent from distance, while adding four assists per night as well (both career highs).
With numbers like that it’s clear why this team is playing so well offensively, memorably putting the Cleveland Cavaliers to the sword with their audacious shooting.
For the advanced stats heads out there, Fournier is also posting a career high 24.1 in Player Efficiency Rating (league average 15) — a statistic we’ll come back to later.
It’s not just the offensive end where Fournier is playing better than ever though, as his defensive rating of 93.8 blows his previous best of 100.4 from the 2012-13 season out of the water.
If he continues in this kind of form, it is entirely possible Fournier enters Most Improved Player discussions by the turn of the year.
