10. Dillon Brooks, Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten off to a hot start in the 2017-18 season with a 4-1 record. A lot of that has to do with the play of rookie forward Dillon Brooks. Brooks was the 45th overall selection in the 2017 NBA Draft out of the University of Oregon.

He recorded 19 points, five rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks in his NBA debut against the New Orleans Pelicans on Oct. 18. He was 7-of-13 from the field, showing off his efficiency inside the 3-point arc. Brooks fits the Memphis mold of gritty player perfectly and gets to start off the Rookie of the Year ladder.

Brooks is averaging 8.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals in 27.0 minutes per game for the Grizzlies. His prowess on the defensive side of the ball has kept Memphis on the positive side of things at the end of games. He is averaging 3.2 personal fouls per game, twice reaching the five-foul plateau, so foul trouble could be something to watch for him.

Still, Brooks has played a solid role off the bench for the Memphis Grizzlies in the early going. He is shooting 22.2 percent from 3-point land, but the most 3-pointers he’s attempted in a game hasn’t gone above two yet.
