Three games into the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2017-18 campaign and it’s already looking like a few players are seen as expendable this season.

Yes, we’re only three games into the 2017-18 NBA season for the Los Angeles Lakers. While that may be the case, we’ve learned a lot through the first few contests about this roster and the coaching staff’s plans for taking advantage of its various talents.

One of the main things I’ve noticed is that the Lakers appear to be scaling back the roles of a few prominent players. As some of the younger prospects begin to earn minutes and opportunities, other players will be forced into reduced rules that could bring their statuses as long-term pieces of the puzzle into question.

It’s unfortunate, but it’s also part of the business of the NBA. As teams add more talent, some of the other players are forced to cede opportunities. In some cases, it can even allow the front office to move on from a player altogether.

While I’m not saying these guys are as good as gone, it’s not looking good for them through three games. The Lakers figure to make some moves between now and the Feb. 8 trade deadline. Could they be involved in a deal when that time comes?
