3. Improved Offensive Play

It’s a small sample size, but right now the Magic are logging an offensive rating of 111.7. This is the sixth-best mark in the league.

Looking at the team play right now, it is easy to see why. The ball zips from side to side in ways we haven’t seen in years.

Young guys like Aaron Gordon, while sometimes still taking too much out of the ball, are learning to trust their teammates more.

Guys like Jonathon Simmons and Terrence Ross who can both move without the ball and don’t see a ton of it, are helping this team become more deadly offensively.

This is even more true when you add in the capabilities of Evan Fournier, who has started the season brightly.

The team also has the fifth highest assist percentage in the league, at 62.5 percent. Yes, these numbers will dip as the season progresses.

But we know already that the team is able to play a much more balanced offensive game in which they can get various guys involved in any one possession.

Perhaps best of all? The Magic, long known as a team who shot 3-pointers poorly, is shooting them at a 48.3 percent clip right now.

That is the second-best mark in the league and shows just how seriously the team has taken changing with the times and catching up to the rest of the teams in that regard.
