Toronto Raptors: 3 takeaways from 2017-18 season opener
2. CJ Miles was an excellent addition
Last season Miles shot a career-high 41.3 percent from the 3-point line. He is a streaky shooter, but he has the ability to get incredibly hot from deep. Toronto finished 13th in 3-point percentage last season with DeMarre Carroll on the roster who shot 34.7 percentage from deep, but whatever advantage Carroll had on Miles in terms of defense is canceled out by Miles elite floor-spacing.
Against the short-handed Bulls, Miles never stopped moving and found soft spots in the defense often.
He scored 22 points against Chicago. This included going six of nine from the 3-point line. It was only one regular season game against what could end up being the worst team in the league. But DeMarre Carroll struggled with nagging injuries and was a non-factor in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. He played 11.1 minutes a game and shot 20 percent from the field.
Miles’ durability (60-plus games played the past 3 seasons) and shooting will make the Raptors more dangerous as an offense when it counts.
