Quick notes and final thoughts

  • The Hornets played 10 players at least 13 minutes, with Kemba Walker (35 minutes) and Dwight Howard (31 minutes) leading the team in court time.
  • Charlotte went to a three-guard lineup with their second unit, with Julyan Stone and Treveon Graham joining Monk in backcourt trio. Graham made some positive plays, and led the bench with 3 assists.
  • Despite going 1-of-9 from the field, Frank Kaminsky did not have the worst shooting line in this game. Detroit’s Stanley Johnson went 0-of-13 from the field and 0-of-6 from 3, but did hit both his free throws to score 2 points on the evening. Johnson made up for it with solid defense resulting in 4 steals in a game-high 40 minutes.
  • Each team made 9 of their 3-point attempts, but Detroit made 11 more field goals overall. Another category of relative numbers is rebounds with Charlotte holding a slight 56-50 edge for the game.

The Charlotte Hornets host the Atlanta Hawks on Oct. 20 in search of getting their first win of the season in their home opener. This matchup is easier on paper, but Atlanta is coming off an impressive win on the road against the Dallas Mavericks. They aren’t as strong defensively as Detroit, but have a strong core of young players that could give the Hornets problems in transition.
