Charlotte Hornets: 3 takeaways from the 2017-18 season opener
The Charlotte Hornets 2017-18 regular season started with a loss to the Detroit Pistons, 102-92. These are some takeaways from that game.
The Charlotte Hornets 2017-18 regular season opener saw them fall on the road to the Detroit Pistons by the score of 102-90. Charlotte struggled to find any rhythm offensively and trailed the duration of the game after with their only lead coming early in the first quarter. Charlotte shot more than twice the amount of free throws than Detroit, but the Pistons attempted 23 more shots in the game.
Kemba Walker led all Hornets in scoring with 24 points on the night, followed by Jeremy Lamb’s 15 points and Dwight Howard’s 10 points. These were the only Charlotte players to reach double-digits on the night in what was an offensive night to forget for a team that shot 39.7 percent from the field on the night.
Detroit weathered some early foul trouble from big man Andre Drummond, and rode the hot shooting of Tobias Harris in the first quarter, who set a career high for points in a quarter with 17 in the first. Harris finished with a game-high 27 points and was one of five Pistons to reach double-digits on the night.
There wasn’t much positivity to take from this game from the Hornets side of things with the team committing 17 uncharacteristic turnovers. Charlotte refused to push the pace and ended up with 0 fast break points on the night. These are my 3 main takeaways from the season opener.
