Despite dominating performances from DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans floundered in their season opener against the Memphis Grizzlies Wednesday, losing 103-91.

It was a somber start to the season against a team that will likely join them in competing for a final Western Conference playoff spot.

The hype is deservedly palpable for the Pelicans. Whenever your roster two potential All-NBA players, you deserve the league’s attention.

But New Orleans fell flat in its opening game, albeit on the road in one of the NBA’s toughest places to play. Here are a couple takeaways for fans.
