Detroit Pistons gave hometown fans an offensive high-flying show with plenty of gritty defense in their 2017-18 season opener.

The Detroit Pistons opened their new downtown arena in typical Detroit Pistons’ fashion. They looked good, some would say midseason good.  I know that’s a bit of an oxymoron, so instead of last years’ Pistons, think old school, Bad Boys, Deeetroit Baasketball  good.

There are still 81 games left in the season, but if last night was any indication, this could get interesting. Right now the Pistons have a better record than the Golden Warriors and Boston Celtics. If the season ended now, the Pistons would be a higher seed than the Celtics or Cleveland Cavaliers.

Now that we’ve gotten completely and irrationally carried away, it’s worth remembering we’re one game into an 82-game season. Maybe last night was just about a team determined to put a W in the books in their new arena. Maybe they won’t win another game. Who knows?

But Wednesday night, if only for 48 minutes, the Bad Boys and Detroit Basketball were back in downtown where they belonged.

The game sparked enthusiasm, nostalgia and most importantly, hope for the future. The Pistons defeated the Hornets 102-90 to christen Little Caesars Arena. Here are three takeaways from the Detroit Pistons’ season opener against the Charlotte Hornets.
