The Brooklyn Nets lost to the Indiana Pacers, 140-131, to open the 2017-18 NBA season. The new-look squad is off to a rough start, losing a star player in the process.

The Brooklyn Nets were looking to build on their impressive preseason 3-1 record with a strong showing in their regular season debut. A midwest battle on the road with the Indiana Pacers was the first test of many during the 2017-18 campaign.

Last year’s opener generated little buzz due to the lack of star power on the roster in comparison to this season. Showcasing new faces like Allen Crabbe, Timofey Mozgov and former No. 2 overall draft pick D’Angelo Russell gave Nets fans plenty of optimism.

The Nets were ready offensively on opening night, but probably forgot their defensive intensity back in Brooklyn. The biggest loss didn’t happen on the scoreboard though, as the Nets lost their star guard Jeremy Lin to another injury late in the fourth quarter.

In the first “three takeaways” of the season, we will recap Brooklyn’s first loss as it attempts to pick up the pieces in time for game two Friday night.
