The Atlanta Hawks opened the 2017-18 NBA season with an impressive offensive showing during a 117-111 victory in Dallas.

The most pressing question facing the Atlanta Hawks entering the 2017-18 NBA season was just exactly where all the points would come from.

Atlanta assembled a roster with only one truly proven scorer, with point guard Dennis Schroder serving as the only player to average 15 points per game during an NBA season, but it received plenty of offensive production in the season opener.

The Hawks seemingly couldn’t miss from anywhere on the floor during a 117-111 victory in Dallas Wednesday night. As a team, Atlanta shot 51.1 percent from the field, connected on 9-of-18 attempts from 3-point range and even capitalized at the free throw line, connecting on 80 percent of its attempts.

The offensive explosion was unexpected, as Paul Millsap, Dwight Howard and Tim Hardaway Jr., three of the four leading scorers from last year’s squad, are no longer on the team. Even with the firepower the trio supplied, the team still only scored 103.2 points per game, the eighth fewest in the league.

A year ago, the Hawks scored over 115 points on just 12 occasions.

To open the 2017-18 season, Atlanta had two players score 20 or more points, and all 12 players that checked into the game managed to score at least three points.

Check out three of the most important takeaways from the Atlanta Hawks’ season debut Wednesday night.
