5. Record his first career double-double

A double-double may not seem like much of a feat. After all, James Harden tallied a league-best 64 of them a year ago.

Only for Johnathon Simmons, the combination of 10 points and 10 assists or rebounds would signify a monumental step forward. In 133 career appearances, Simmons has yet to surpass seven rebounds or five assists in a single game.

Simmons carved out a roster spot in the NBA by becoming one of the best defenders in the league, as his play against Harden in the Western Conference semifinals was instrumental in San Antonio advancing, but he needs to make greater contributions aside from shutting down the opposition.

After six preseason contests, Simmons is averaging 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game, but if he manages to post his first career double-double, he could secure a prominent role in coach Frank Vogel’s rotation.
