Washington Wizards: 5 goals for Kelly Oubre Jr. in 2017-18
3. Improve his field goal percentage
The Washington Wizards got a lot out of John Wall and Bradley Beal in the point production department. The duo combined for 46.2 points per game, ranking sixth overall in the NBA in backcourt production.
With upgrades across the board in the East, the Wizards could find it difficult to duplicate that stat in 2017-18. It may be wise for Kelly Oubre Jr. to prepare himself to attack the basket more and improve his shooting efficiency.
He shot 42 percent from the field and 28.7 percent from 3-point range on 5.6 shot attempts per game in 2016-17. That number is sure to rise for Oubre, as is his confidence after a strong offseason in the gym.
That doesn’t mean, however, he has to take more shots per se. With his athleticism and wingspan, he has the ability to get to the rim with relative ease when he asserts himself. He can’t get jump shot happy. Instead, he must focus on getting in the paint and finishing with the possibility of getting to the free throw line.
If he can do that for the Washington Wizards in 2017-18, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in the East.
