4. Crash the glass more on both ends

The Washington Wizards ranked 22nd in rebounding in 2016-17 with a majority of the rebounding coming from center Marcin Gortat and forwards Markieff Morris and Otto Porter. Gortat averaged 10.4 rebounds per game, Morris averaged 6.5 rebounds per game and Porter averaged 6.4 rebounds per game.

With Morris out of the rotation to begin the season, there’s a hole in the rebounding department and Oubre will be one player looked upon to fill the void.

With two years of experience under his belt, he’s beginning to come into his own and find his confidence. He has the athleticism and quickness to keep up with other forwards in the paint. As he begins to gain more trust in the offense, he’ll also be expected to crash the glass and use his abilities on the glass.

Oubre Jr. averaged 3.3 rebounds per game in 2016-17, a slight increase from his production in 2015-16 (2.1 per game). He’ll still spend time on the wing in 2017-18 on offense, but defensively, he’ll find himself guarding some of the bigger forwards in the league.

With that comes the added responsibility of boxing out and securing the rebound, something Oubre is completely capable of. An added focus of crashing the glass on both ends should add to the points per game production if all goes well too.
