San Antonio Spurs: 5 bold predictions for 2017-18 NBA season

1. Win the NBA championship

Since winning their first championship in 1999, the Spurs have been able to win a ring in 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014. But since their last win in 2014, the Spurs have failed to reach the NBA Finals again.

Even with records like 61-21 in 2016-17 and 67-15 in 2015-16, San Antonio has not been able to make it out of the West. This could be the year they finally get over the hump and make it back to the Finals.

After last year, Spurs fans were left heartbroken. They came out of the gate strong and were able to secure a 20-point lead against Golden State in Game 1. Then Leonard went down with an injury that would end his season and San Antonio blew its lead.

This is kind of like 2013. The Spurs had the lead with less than a minute remaining against the Miami Heat. They blew it and would go on to lose the series. Then the following year, they were able to come back from that devastating loss to man handle the Heat. They took the series 4-1 to secure their fifth championship.

If history repeats itself, the Spurs are setting themselves up for a chance to claim their sixth title. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out in June.
